Nostalgia 2.0 : Taiwan, myths and realities

This photography show invites you to explore "the Heart of Asia - Taiwan", and tends to connect the past and the present, nature and concrete, the legacies of a colonial past and resolutely Asian soul.

Through photography, we objectively record how these elements cohabitate on the island, offering the viewer to think about their complexity and incongruity.

Each series focuses on the color palette of Asia, including the gray of city, the natural green of tropical and the warm red of lantern at the temples.

01 Jiu-fen Once crowded by the gold-rushers in 1890s, Jiu-fen was the most prosperous region in Taiwan, where located the first and biggest cinema of the country. However, after people digged out the gold in 1970, it became all silent. Not until A City of Sadness (1989), directed by Hou Hsiao-Hsien, it got people’s attention again.

02 Concrete Jungle East coastline of Taiwan, lying on the 3,000 meters high mountains and facing at the deep blue Pacific Ocean, the most stunning spot to embrace nature. Yet, on the train we couldn’t ignore one after another factories, named after ‘Happiness Concrete Company’.
